BED BUG MEDS CLUB

BED BUG MEDS CLUB

There are 133 million people in the U.S. who have chronic illness— and 50% of them forgot to take their meds today.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in 2017.

I struggled to take my own medication, so I decided to create the Pill Bug, a plushy container that holds a small vial for water and medication, allowing me to sleep on the container comfortably and take my medication from the comfort of my bed. I recorded a video on TikTok talking about the Pill Bugs, and the video soared, gaining 35K views and 140 comments from people who had a variety of conditions that resonated with my product. It created a sense of community among us chronically ill; and thus, the Bed Bugs Meds Club was born. The Club and Pill Bugs were created to de-stigmatize taking meds and normalize living with chronic illness.

HOW IT STARTED:

INTRODUCING THE PILL BUGS: I wanted to personify the Pill Bugs as tangible characters, with unique personalities and interests, and who live with chronic illness. I wanted to showcase a set of characters that audiences can resonate with, and reinforce the idea that taking medication is something that is interwoven in their everyday lives, not a cause of shame.
